British Supercross Championship Round 1

Sheffield Arena - October 25th

Spiked @ SHeffield Supercross 2008

Sheffield Arena hosted round 1 of the British Supercross series, Luke’s preparation for this event couldn’t have gone better.
The track didn’t seem as technical as last year but it was certainly challenging, the competition was tough with 20 riders competing in the Supermini class which included the newly crowned British Youth Motocross champion Luke Hawkins.
In practice Luke quickly dialed the track in and seemed fairly comfortable with things, although he felt the carburation was not quite crisp enough, Matt made a few adjustments.
In Lukes heat he needed to qualify inside the top 4 to go straight through to the evenings final, Luke got a good start and pulled away in the whoop section to a commanding lead.
He quickly settled into a fast pace and focused ahead not making any mistakes, he tried several lines through some of the rythum sections to see what worked best. He crossed the finish line around 30 metres infront of second place.
This put Luke straight into the final qualifying in 1st position, excellent for his confidence.
Before the evening show and races began Matt worked flat out to improve the bike, some tuning to the forks to improve the stiffness, a modification to the clutch to stop it grabbing on the start line and some fine tuning to the bikes carburation would hopefully give Luke that extra bit of confidence.
His mental and body prepation was perfect assisted by our amazing new sponsors ISO2 nutrition, they ensured Luke stayed in great shape for the late final which would start around 10pm at night!
Inbetween the evenings events, Luke collected his number 2 championship plate for the 2007 season.
The final.
Luke lined up right in the middle of the gates, as the gates dropped he pushed hard into the first corner right at the front, he made huge progress through the whoop section to move into a commanding lead, after a couple of laps he was nearly 20 metres ahead and settled into a good pace.
He really used his head keeping an eye on the riders behind on some of the tight corners just to gauge if he needed to inject more pace, he almost crashed towards the end of the lap as the ruts were getting deeper, Luke adjusted his line through this section from then on.
The remainder of the race was just awesome to watch as he made no mistakes and rode very smoothly to fantastic win.
This was just an amazing result for Luke, he finally pulled off a win we know he has always been capable of, and especially infront of some tough competition. This has really boosted his confidence for the rest of the series.
We would like to thank everyone who has sponsored Luke, without you this would not be possible, it was great to see some of you at Sheffield and we hope you enjoyed the evening.
Special thanks to the guys at TRM, Leon at Apico for new Answer kit (it looked fantastic), Rob from Spiked for spending the day with us last week training and Paula and Mark from ISO2 for their amazing help with providing the new bike and in keeping Luke focused throughout the day.

We are going to continue training hard and doing a few races up to the end of the year and will keep everyone up to speed with how things are going, we have attched a few photo’s from the days racing.
