Charlotte Moore - Up and coming trick skier
Young Gun Trick Skier Charlotte Moore
Words and photography by Rob Grist.
At thirteen years old, you could be forgiven for thinking that Charlotte Moore had just started out on her water skiing career, but you couldn’t be further from the truth. She kicked things off at the age of four, learning to wakeboard until she changed to skis at the age 11 and came third in the nationals in her first season. She competes in three events: slalom, tricks, and this year she is going to hit the jump. Charlotte spared us five minutes to answer a few questions after returning home from a training trip to the States.
SPIKED: Do you have special diet plans?
CM: I have a healthy balanced diet and eat my fruit, veg, and nuts. I have also been in contact with Be Well who have set up a nutrition plan for my brother Ollie and they are working a plan out for me.
SPIKED: Who are your biggest influences and why?
CM: My coach Will Morrison. He has helped me to learn new tricks and improve my slalom technique and is a great person and awesome skier. He is able to deal with me when my skiing is going wrong and helps me to get focussed again.
I have also been fortunate to have skied with the 3 top women. Nicole Arthur is an amazing slalom skier and I love skiing with her. Natalia Berdnikova is the current world trick record holder and I've skied with her in Florida at Jack Travers Ski School, she is a fantastic tricker to watch.
My first Jump sets this year were with Tom Asher and June Fladborg. Both June and Tom are incredible jumpers - they are at the top of their game, and it was a great thrill to be taught to jump by them.
SPIKED: What support do your family give you?
CM: My parents support me the most of all. They take me skiing at Tallington Lakes and Hazelwood Ski World on weekends and evenings in the summer, as well as Florida for some winter training. They work really hard and cover all the costs for skiing and new equipment, they find time to get us to the water whenever they can. They are always there to take me to a tournament which can be all over the country. They are amazing parents.
SPIKED: What are your ultimate ambitions?
CM: My ultimate ambition is to become a World Champion one day, you have to aim high! For now, I just enjoy the sport and the tournaments and all the ups and downs that go with this great sport.
