One of the great things about being involved with multiple sports, is you get to try them all out. The SPIKED team do exactly that and that's what really keeps us going.
Each member of the SPIKED crew is actively involved with sport and that’s why we love what we do. The interesting thing about participating in multiple sports is that it really opens your eyes to how many sports complement each other and why cross training enhances your main discipline.
I spent time with Sol Gilbert at his Fightskool HQ in Brighton, to get an incite into his training methods and to see if my herniated L5 and S1 disks , perforated ear drum and fractured metacarpal could take the pace.
Thankfully they were fine.
The gym had a great vibe with spot on facilities and the coaching was second to none. I definitely recommend this kind of training as a core discipline or to use as a way of cross training. If you think about key attributes for any action sport - core stability, balance, focus, stamina, strength, agility, commitment, then MMA has all of these, so it's definitely worth giving it a go. Gone are the days when MMA or boxing was only for fighters, now it is available to anyone who wants to push themselves.
I look forward to more training with Sol and really look forward to his new column in the SPIKED magazine which is now on sale.
